The first thing you need to do when attempting to fix a computer is to prepare your tools ahead of time, and the most handy tool to keep in your arsenal is the handy flash drive, also known as the thumb drive, thumb stick, usb stick & usb key. Along with the flash drive, we'll talk about the programs you can use to fix your computer and how to prepare them for use.
They're small, portable and can hold a lot of data if you need to extract some important files from your drive before it dies. They are also compatible with most computers and don't require any software to be installed on the machine you're working on. Just plug it into any usb port and windows will mount it as a mass storage device. This means you'll be able to drag, drop and execute programs off of it like you would your local hard drive.
We want to store a few really handy tools on our flash drive to help speed up our job. Don't worry, these tool are easy to use, easy to install and best of all, free! If you just want to do work on your own computer then you really don't need to worry about getting a flash drive. In this case, you just download the programs onto your computer and install them.
