Installing software can introduce malware onto your computer. These programs usually piggy-back on other, perhaps even legitimate software installations. However, malware can also be introduced into your machine via a software exploit. Let's fire up Malwarebytes Anti-Malware application which can be freely downloaded from their website.
Malware, is simply software which serves no legitimate function other then to mess up your machine. A lot of malware programs even attempt to extort money from you in order to remove it from your computer. You may have already encountered one of these if you've ever seen a program on your machine call "Internet Security Suite" or something similar. This application mimics the look of a virus scanner which falsely claims that hundreds of viruses are infecting your files. It also prevents you from removing it unless you purchase the full version... which then installs more malware on your machine.
